snapped the rear pto on my JD 2305

I was tilling my garden and after the loud bang I got off my tractor looked at the rear PTO only to see the fluid pouring out where the shaft had snapped off. I am a little nauseous. Can one replace the shaft by yourself and how much will a new shaft cost?

HI, where you live?

You are likely going to need to tear down the majority of the rear end to get to where the shaft is keyed, clipped or pinned in.

Likely a good amount of work.

Did your slip clutch fail?

Hopefully nothing else got munched up.

I'd not operate the machine until you sort it out.

Its going to require some work as said before. The 2305 is a fairly new tractor. Is it still under warranty? Either way if you are not a mechanic its probably a job for the dealer which is going to equal $$$$.

This is not the first time this has happened to the JD 2300 series. Looks like its a weak spot.
