Remove the cylinder and end to prep for welding. Reinstall, Tack it in place, remove the cylinder again to complete the weld.

VIOLA!

Well yay! After removing it the head is replaceable! It screws into the piston.
Bad news. Cant find it anywhere and the shop I went to said they would not be able to recreate the seal area with where they would need to weld :(

I didn't want to dump the rest of the hydraulic fluid out but the piece in the piston simply screws in.

Is the rod eye cast iron? The threaded end is is the weak link as I see it. However, if you wanted to keep it as it is weld a nut on the threaded end and back it out. Have a machine shop thread a rod and weld it to an eye, reinstall. Otherwise you could have a new rod made up with a welded eye and eliminate the threaded end all together.

I'd go for the new rod myself.
