That's the sound I heard while using my BH to plant some small trees...

I checked the arms and hoses out all appeared ok...

Started a second hole and... snap

This time the top arm stopped working...

Everything else appears to work except for the top piston.

Something must have let go inside the piston... Anyone else with this type of problem?

Bummer having to dig those holes by hand.

No, and I hope I never do !!
We are in the process of putting in a new house and I have a lot of backhoe work coming up digging for utility lines and lots of drainage.
One thing I do not need right now is messing around with a broken backhoe.
Hope you get fixed up quick.
Is your backhoe still under warrenty ?

I hope so, it's less than 1 year old...

I'll find out Tuesday, I plan on calling my dealer with the bad news.

Sorry to hear about your problem swnoel. I've not had a problem like that at all. Did you see any hydro fluid at all? Sounds like maybe one of the piston arms broke. The BH should be under warranty for one year. Good luck and let us know what it is. John CK20 Albums

I bought it from Central Tractor in Tilton.

Stanley has used me well.

After looking at the schematic of the BH and cylinder...

My guess is that the nut on the end of the cylinder shaft has pulled off...

Hope all the cylinders don't do the same....at least not after the warranty has expired.

SW, which backhoe model do you have? I have the KB2365 and so far, no problems except a small leak from an O ring that was deformed from over tightening. John

I had a 2385 rip off the nut inside the cylinders on the dipper stick. No leaks, no noise, no nothing. This machine belongs to an experanced hoe opperator. I replaced the cylinder for the man... that's the first one I have heard of having that problem..

Looks like this maybe the second and I wasn't working her hard.

Hope this doesn't happen to the other cylinders /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yes, I do too. Let's hope it was just a weak one. John

Got back to the dealer today... as expected it was the nut on the end of the cylinder shaft.

He said it was probably due to backing into a tree or some other object.

May have been a tree, as if been working, removing stumps.

Never knew I hit one!

This is the second one that has done it to him.

Hope mine is the last for both of us.
