In June, one crawled out from under my foot while I was pulling some ground cover around my shrubs.
In July, one was relaxing on my front porch one evening.
Last night, I was pulling some of my dying garden plants and almost grabbed hold of one. (I'll be wearing gloves next time  )
All were rat snakes or something similar (from looking at pictures). None more than about 2' to 2 1/2" long. And I can assure you they were not the same snake.
Have lived in the same house 20 years and don't think I have seen 3 snakes in all the previous years combined.

I saw a lot of snake activity by seeing their tracks on my soft dirt road this year. But only seen two snakes all year? Last year we saw a whole bunch of them around this time. Mostly diamondback rattlers in my area.

This is why I will never live further south than I am already... Me and snakes do not see eye to eye! I killed one copperhead near my porch several years ago, but that is it around here for the venomous flavors. We're a little too far north for cottonmouths. I will leave a black snake alone, so long as it's not near me or threatening to be...

You guys that live in the deep south - you enjoy those things. They are not for me!

Lots more snakes here in the Ozarks this year. Two big black snakes were mating in my backyard one day. Between me and my dog we have killed 7 copperheads. Five of them in the woods, but two big ones around my house. Also saw one coachwhip in the woods. First one I had seen besides in a zoo or such.

With all the rain we got up until recently, I had expected to see a lot more snakes this year than I have. Considering too that we have a large stock tank 100 yds behind our home, I'll usually see and kill at least one rattler and one cottonmouth up by our house every year, but not this year. I've only seen one pretty big bull snake and that was it. Picked him up with the shovel and rake, and carried him away from the house and let him go. He was about 4 feet long though. Other than him, the snakes have not been in close. Haven't even seen any in our pastures or woods either. Really unusual!!

Uncle Buck hit it, I think. The wet weather, especially in Texas, has driven them out of the wet areas.

I haven't seen any more than usual. However, we were up at Bridal Veil Falls in the DuPont State Forest (near Asheville, NC) a few weeks ago and there were brown and banded watersnakes everywhere among the rocks. I think I must have seen 8 or 10 while we swam and played in the creek. All small and pretty shy.

I haven't seen anymore snakes than usual, but I did see two rat snakes within 25' of each other on the side of my driveway. I'd never seen that before. I have not seen a moccasin or rattler this year, but scorpions are invading my house more than normal. We've killed five in the last month: two in the kitchen, two on the stairs, and one on the third floor bathroom wall.
