I dont really mind snakes, but my wife saw a big copperhead last weekend and she wants to get rid of it somehow.

I am not sure if there is a thing like a snake trap, but it never hurts to ask on TBN, right? What should I do if I find a fresh snake hole? Is there a way to trap a snake? Like cage with live mice?

Any advice is apprecitated.

Get a couple of cats to remove it's food source and get rid of places for it to hide under (logs, piles of branches, etc). I expect you saw it because it's warming up and it's hungry. Copperheads are more curious than most snakes and will come visit with you. However, they're normally not agressive unless attacked. Unless it has a food source of small furry animals, it won't stick around.

I assure you, that copperhead doesn't want to be around you any more than you want to be around it. Usually, the only time you'll see a snake around a home is when it's been dry for a while and they're looking for water. You'll probably not see it again, and trapping efforts would be futile.

Don't know if it is true or not, but it works here at our place.

I have some BIG black snakes that hang around, see some posts a year or two back, they seem to own the place.

No copperheads, only two other type snake sightings, these black snakes seem to have it under control. YMMV

What about dogs? Are the snakes gonna run from dogs - or try to fight them? I believe our kids are old enough not to mess with any snake - but dogs will never be that smart.

I wrangled a copperhead last summer near my chicken house, but not before a chicken got a little too close. I used a large trashcan and a hoe. I just laid the trashcan on its side and used the hoe to slide him in. I set the can upright with the hoe and snapped on the lid. A short drive to the refuge and he was home free. I'm sure he'll make it back by this summer!

I inadvertently created a snake trap a few weeks ago. To keep the chickens out of the yard we were reseeding, we built a bamboo stake/plastic hardware cloth fence. That black plastic mesh must be invisible to the snakes, we've caught two so far. Nothing like cutting a mad snake out of a fence!

I try to keep the mice trapped out, but there is always something around that the snakes will eat. I moved to the country to escape humans, they are much more offensive than the snakes!

Copperheads are about the only snake I would call friendly. They don't see to run off around here. Twice while camping we were sitting around the camp fire, next thing we know we were joined by the snake. Funny first time (same hunting buddy both times), we just sort of sat there with the snake about 3 feet from us....saying huh, look at that 2' copperhead right next to you. What's up with that Scott?

Both ended up in snake heaven and we ended up in the truck. no more sleeping on the ground in a river bottom.

Fellows, copperheads are poisonous! If I were in the woods somewhere far from the house I might let him go. Around the house I would send him to snake paradise.
You might try getting some king snakes, they will take care of them. Other than that, I would shoot the thing. Or take a hoe and do it in.
I saw a guy who got bitten by a copperhead, and I thought his leg was going to burst it was so swollen.
It does not pay to fool around with a copperhead, rattler, cotton mouth, and or a coral snake. Just my take on it.
