snake in bird netting

Sad day in the garden. My garden rat snake somehow tried to crawl up the bird netting that was spread over the top of my blueberry bush. He entangled himself and when I found him he had already died. This is the first year we are using the netting. Is this common?????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don't know if it's common or not, but it happened to me last year. I don't think he was trying to climb, but was just passing through & got caught on the ground. I tried my best to get him out intact & leave my netting intact too, but struck out - - ended up cutting out a small section & moving him into the woods. I doubt he had much of a life after that, but he did manage to disappear.

Tdog, the part of the netting where my snake was tangled was also on the ground and it looked like he was trying to crawl up to untangle, and got about a foot high. I'll have to make sure the netting is a couple of feet off the ground from now on.
