I'm having a FEL remove trees and brush. What can I use to pull behind my tractor to smooth things out. Not leveling, just to get the ruts etc out. thanks.

A rear blade or box blade comes to mind. The rear blade is more for smoothing and finish grading. A box blade would work good since it holds more dirt to drop in the low spots or ruts. If thier just shallow ruts either will be ok but for deep ruts the box would be better.

I just bought a yard rake (York rake is the most famous) today and used it for the first time ever. WOW! It really cleans up after using an FEL. It did a lot better job than the box blade or scraper. I wish I had this when I spread 10 yards of topsoil over 3/4 acre - it would have been a lot easier.

If you want to do it cheap hook an old bed springs behind with a couple of cement blocks on for wt. and it will smooth out small ridges. I did this with my garden tractor befor I got my other toys and it did the job.

Mark,

Do you know the web page of the York Yard Rake? I did a search under goole and don't seem to find it.

If you just need it smooth it out one time i have heard that if pull a palet behind your tractor with two cement blocks on it it works fine. If you wil use it more often it would be better to buy a box blade or rake. chico922@excite.com

I bought my York Rake from the Tractor Store for about $300. It works great. I would recommend getting gage wheels - which I don't have. I use it mainly to redo my crush driveway, but the other day I did use it to fix up my FEL work, it did a good job.

Can't beat a good landscaping rake for this. I have had very good results with my Land Pride LR 1584 rake. Very heavy duty built rake. Weighs over 300 lbs. to give you an idea of how it is built. The extra weight is useful when landscaping.

A box blade would get my vote for what you want to do. You can set the scarifiers to go as deep or shallow as you need to move dirt to low spots.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

tld, One thing to consider for repairing ruts etc is top soil and smooth it down by backdragging with the FEL. A load of topsoil or, as in my case, mounds of topsoil saved from putting in a road is real handy. Dump a FEL load or two on the scars and grade it smooth. On the lawn ( say I removed a stump so I need to make -up a deficit) I sprinkle fertilizer around, dump a bucket of soil on the area, grade it smooth and then sprinkle grass seed on it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I keep a pile of gravil around also.

I just bought a '7 Leinbach landscape rake Tuesday and spent about 6 hours with it the same day. Wonderful little attachment. Moved dirt with Fel, spread with rake. Cleaned up trash, cleaned an access road, removed tire ruts with one pass including old ones made by a truck after last rain. Handy little tool.

A real plus with a lanscape rake is you can go over and over the area, pulling up rocks, logs, sticks, old turf, etc., without doing any real digging and at the same time smoothing everything out and evening it up--the implement is heavy enough to have real ground impact b but the tines are flexible and do not dig way down. Also a landscape rake is uniquely suited to is digging in grass seed. I find that the yield is a lot higher, and the seed won't wash out on slopes, if I run the rake over it lightly after spreading it; of course, unless you're putting in a large area, this last can be done with a /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif hand rake.
