jd 445
Hello All. I just bought a used 445 with 335 hours on it and am a bit concerned. As I'm mowing I get a couple of seconds of acrid smoke out the exhaust. This happens randomly every 10 seconds or so.
The tractor had been sitting for a year or more before I bought. I changed oil and filter and added 6 gallons of new gas along with injector cleaner.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ed

Did you change the fuel filter too? When you smell the odor is the exhaust smoke a different color? What type of injector cleaner did you use? What does it smell like...sulfur, dead animal, burning oil, or something else?

I don't remember which injector cleaner I used, it was a name brand. Had to tell the color, seems light gray/white. It does not smell like sulfur or burning oil.
Mowed last evening and it seems to be smoking less than it was. I will see about getting a new fuel filter next chance I get to run to Deere Country.

Thanks for you input. Ed

I wouldn't be too concerned at this point from what you have said. This could just be a result from using the injector cleaner. White smoke usually means fuel (or something else) isn't burning off cleanly. It is hard to tell without actually seeing and smelling the smoke for myself. The injector cleaner can cause this for a short period of time as it starts to remove buildup and that process can actually cause the injectors to perform poorly for a little bit as the particles are removed and they pass through the nozzles. It can also be a result of the cleaner burning off too. I'd think it will clear up the more you run it as the particles, gunk, and cleaner make their way out and the injectors return to normal operation. It should happen pretty quickly. You might have a little more smoke than normal depending on which cleaner you used but that will go away after your next tank fill.

I would run a few tanks of fuel through it the rings may be a little hung up from sitting maybe try some synthetic oil if you aren't using it now.
