Smoking Crankcase breather

I'm looking at a Ford 601 Workmaster to purchase. It runs great no lose of power but after running for 10 mins it starts to put smoke out the breather. Looks like exhaust smoke. It does not smoke through the muffler. I am going to do a compression test, what should the compression be? Is this a sign of a more serious problem? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

What color smoke is it. You normally get some blow by vapor through the vent . If you put your hand under the vent hose you should barely feel it blowing.

Blow-by usually caused by broken rings in a gas or diesel engine. Sometimes a cracked head will allow seepage of coolant that makes a steam. not smoke.
A compresson test will indicate if one cyl. is low pressure of several cylinders are effected. Does the engine start quickly or does it need to be cranked for several (it seems) minutes if so low compresson and fuel leaking down side of piston.
Using either to start when engine is cold. on the newer engines could cause this.
large amount of blow by almost always is complete engine rebuild. include large deduction if buying.

The smoke is blueish to white and has an oil smell to it, the motor starts very easy and runs good. I ran it with a bush hog for about 20 minutes and it ran great with good power. If it wasn't for the smoke you wouldn't think anything was wrong.

G'day try an oil and filter change when you do the comp test if the oil is fuel diluted it can cause alot of breathing.
