Smoked a JD 4110 60' deck gear box

Hi fellas, the lower bearing and seal went out on my mower deck gear box. After tearing it all apart and finding blue gears and wasted bearings I find out Deere doesn't break it down into parts but wants to sell the whole gear box for $653.xx. Any one know where or how to find new gears for it? the bearings should be pretty easy to match up.

Something like baler twine or wire wrap up around the spindle?

I doubt JD made the gear box. I would be looking for any indentifying marks and try Google. Good luck.

Just put in the bearings if the gear teeth arent worn. Use corn head grease instead of gear oil.

I got the seals for a gearbox on my 60 that I had on my 855. Did you look it up on jdparts, or did you call the stealership. I've found that they can get parts for things that aren't normally broken down on jdparts. Maybe the parts are discontinued now too. It's been a while since I put the seals in, I traded mowers a couple years ago.

No the lower seal just went out and left it run dry. I didn't even hear a warning sign, just bogged down and it was all over.

Thanks for the reply,I'll check it out. Gear box says made in Spain.

SPYDERLK, the gears are worn and blue on the wear surfaces. $464 on ebay may be the way yo go.

I purchased a complete 60" deck for $15.00. How many gear boxes are the same? I bet many are the same placed in off set locations. At dealer values its worth a try.
