OK, it finally stopped raining long enough, and was able to mow yard. Had a little time, before dark to start and run the Jinma. Here is what I observed:
- Tractor hasn't been run in 3-4 weeks, maybe longer. Checking of the radiator fluid produced the characteristic pressure release sound. Not much, but it was there. I do have the factory rad cap.
- Started engine and ran at 1500rpms, and let it come up to operating temp. I do have a hot tstat, so operating temp is about 90C. Observed the crankcase vent during the complete warm-up and for the duration of the other tests. At no time was any steam, smoke or other, noticed venting from it. No pressure or vacuum could be sensed around the lid, but the lid is too large to seal off with hand. Didn't think of removing top cover. Maybe next time. Also, oil is still probably not hot enough to boil out any condensation.
- After tractor was at operating temp, but oil pressure hadn't dropped, to its "normal" range. Removed hose from valve cover fitting. Noticed no decernable vacuum or pressure on the engine side. On the hose side, you feel the intake pulses, like on the intake filter opening, only at a much reduced level. If you hold your finger away from the hose, just a little bit, it feels like a pulsing vacuum. If you hold your finger completely over hose, it does not feel like a vacuum, the pulses prevent ant suction feel.
- During the above test, oil presure was monitored. Not even a small deflection was noted. I did plug both the engine and hose side, together and held for a minute, and still no deflection in oil pressure. Maybe it takes hours to build up?
Anyway, that is what I observed. I don't think it proves or dis-proves much. Maybe I will do an extended test, during my next field mowing.
