Smell hydraulic fluid?

Occassionally, after long periods of use (read 2+ hours) , I start to smell hydraulic fluid. I don't see any leaks anywhere and my "dipstick" shows the fluid is still full. Is this normal? I didn't start to notice it until I put on my FEL. The temperature on the gauge is normal (towards cold).

BTW, here are the specifics about my tractor. 2710, FEL mounted, box blade on rear.

Any ideas, tips, concerns???

Hello Greg,

I get the same thing with my B2400. No leaks, just a little stinky when it's hot. So far, my guess is the smell/vapor is coming from the vent tubes in the transmission case under the seat.

You might want to check the tempereature of the oil. You don't have to be to precise but is it hot to the touch? Transmission oil often runs up to 200 degrees so watch out but just pull the dipstick and get a feel for it. As with all oils they get thin as they get warm and you may have a leak that only occurs with the oils being warm.
