Drew -
I had a friend in Germany that had a Smart car and one here in the states also. They both raved about their cars and were very happy. The car was made for being able to park head on to the curb. The cars are very well built.

However I would suggest you also look into side-by-side like the Honda Pioneer or JD Gator. They might fill the bill.

Or maybe something like this

thanks everyone. The Spitfire is light, good one!, but about a foot too long.
already have a golf cart and a Kubota UTV400, both great machines, but neither are
legal to take on the road.

yes, i know i am coming at this a bit oddly. of course my wifes' first idea was a motorcycle with a sidecar...

I saw a motor cycle with a side car this week. The side car was completely inclosed which I have never seen before. The driver was still exposed to the weather but the passenger looked like they would have been comfy. Well, comfy, if that could fit in the side car. It sure looked small.:laughing::laughing:

I am seeing quite a few trike bikes which appear to be required to carry the weight of the rider and passenger.:D:D:D The three wheel motorcycles with two wheels up front are becoming more common around here as well. I guess they are safer than a motorcycle and get good MPG.

Later,
Dan

I saw a really neat motorhome / caravan rig the other day. They had take a full size tractor truck (like a highway star or Kenworth) and behind the truck cab, but ahead of the 5th wheel they had made a platform that a Smart car sat right on. Thus they had the truck cab, then the smart car and then the 5th wheel trailer behind that. It was the coolest thing. I could not see how they got the Smart up onto the platform but I suspect it was a hydraulic lift.
Saw the same thing a few weeks ago. Unlikely that I saw the same rig given the distance but apparently it's not that rare.

the Smart car really is a little smaller and lighter than all the other models imported today, though I bet a wide variety of Asian micro cars would work equally well.

A local import dealer has three of these, they buy them off lease and says there's a market for them. We have one in our area, and boy it looks tippy, but apparently isn't. Reminds me of a phone booth on wheels. Or in future speak, a personal mobility module?

I'm going to go sit in one, see if I even fit in it, and if I do, I'll bring the wife to see it. Otherwise, it will be a small Jeep or something I can flat tow behind the rv.

I think the new Mitsubishi Mirage is in the 1800 lbs range. You could also pick up a relatively new Lotus Elise.

Island Tractor's summation was well received by the bar...
but assuming logic does not prevail, the Elise is very nice and over twelve feet long.
I still have to figure out how to open the door on it, unless I winch it on and off.

c'mon all you motorheads, eleven feet... not a lot to work with.

I can tow 5k with the motorhome but would like to keep the number well under that. Basically most fwd cars have to go on a dolly, unless otherwise
prohibited by one of numerous mechanical exceptions. Manual trans cars are usually easy to tow but not many of them any more.

If I were to straight tow, I could pull up to 4k comfortably, so really, other than trucks and big SUVs, that includes an awful lot of choices.
And something I might use at another time, whereas the Smart car may not be so smart then...

Hmmm, maybe a Camry hybrid is the answer! Drag that along behind the motorhome with the brakes on a bit, get some good charging going, and generate enough electricity to pay for the motorhome fuel. Un huh.
