Posthole Digger Smallest available auger size?

/ Smallest available auger size? #11
Many years ago I decided to try accelerating the "rotting out" of some of my larger pine stumps. A friend had given me a granular material that was supposed to do this.

So with my generator - Milwaukee 1/2" Hole Hog - 1 3/4" x 36" ships auger - - I drilled MANY holes in many trees. It didn't seem to help a bit.

I also HAD a 2" dirt auger that I tried using to drill around selected fruit trees and then add fertilizer to these drilled holes. It worked for a few holes. Then this auger ran into something tough and the Hole Hog turned the entire dirt drill into a pretzel.

Now I take a four foot length of 3/4" steel pipe and simply drive it down three feet. Pull it out along with the "core" - - add fertilizer down the open hole. Pack it down with a 1/2" x 4" wood dowel. Quick, easy, efficient.

You're pulling it out with the loader, right? Or maybe a fence post puller? :)

No, if I "wobbled" the pipe as I drove it down - most would come out by hand. However - there WERE some that required the loader.

Deep root feeding is done in the top few inches of soil. There's no need to go deeper than 6".
