Hi there. After the last time of pulling my pump and aging I want to make some easier way then just yanking it. In my case its 130 foot down, with Black ''well pipe'There is of cource the wires and also the nylon safety rope.
Yesterday I had to work on the upper end.(pitless adapter) end So I could pull it up and now use the tractor loader frame to tie the rope off onto to steady it. This works fine but it got me to thinking of something Id like to build..
Given the relative short dept of pipe and weight, I come up with a simple i hope idea.
I am thinking something like a cheap HF winch. But instead Id want a slighly larger intake wheel so I could hook the well nylon rope onto it.This winch would be mounted onto the bucket etc some how. But would allow me to slowly raise the pump and with a second person they could walk it out onto the lawn.
So my first thought is what to use to make this intake wheel.I double all the rope would fit on the wheel on the winch.
Any ideas would be great. thanks..

What about using the HF winch like a capstan winch? Remove the cable, and add a thick layer of rope to increase the spool diameter. The run your well pump rope around the spool a few times and back out. Keep tension on that loose end of rope while you walk it (and the water pipe) out across the lawn while someone runs the winch.

Not sure how much weight you are lifting, but a Rope Puller might do it. The rope doesn't get spooled, just passes through the grooved pulley, so rope length is unlimited.

If you need something stronger, you could modify a winch to work this way.

I carry this one in my truck. It is rated at 1500 lbs.

Do a search on "Rancher's Pipe Holder".
Between that tool, an FEL & maybe a helper, you should be able pull up & lower back a pretty heavy pipe string.

For my windmills, I use a tool called a pipe dog vise to pull up the drop pipe a few feet at a time. As the pipe comes up, the vise slips down to ground level as the pipe is secured and the winch cable relaxed.

Some guys use a hydraulic motor to run their winch because of the good up and down control. Use the loader curl circuit to run he winch and leave the bucket raise /lower function intact.

When pulling the entire well pump or cylinder, keep in mind that you disconnect a section of pipe as it comes up, so you need to manage about 11 feet of lift. This keeps the CG of the pulled pipe section below the vise clamp and thus the end stays down. This is especially good to know when you want to put it all back together.

I take it you're using black poly pipe, same as I used. How about an old car wheel or atv wheel to wind the rope on? Seems like it would work. Of course you'd have to butcher the winch to get it on there.

A Frame with pulley/snatch block and hook the safety rope onto the tractor and drive away. Gotta brace the A frame so you don,t pull it over. Tie a vehicle on one side, pull from the other with tractor

A Frame, pulley/snatch block and manual boat winch using the safety rope.

Just think A Frame and all kinds of simple cheap methods will come to mind.

Or a lever with unequal arms, fairly high pivot point and a fellow to clamp the pipe after you raise it?

Probably the simplest.

Sorry - thought you had metal pipe - this probably wouldn't work with the plastic pipe, which bigdeano mentioned.

First time my well went out years ago I paid a Pro and watched carefully. They use a boom truck and simply slide a hose clamp down and tighten each lift. After that I made a 2 by 12 with cutout for well pipe, carefully double vise griped each lift with FEL. Pulled 240 foot well easy in about 1 hour. Hope this helps.
