Backhoe Small Trench Bucket for Kubota BX25

Make (um, that it, politely ask) your BIL to join us here. So many of us want help putting in bridges! And too few of us know how to do it safely!

I do not do a lot (any, so far) of trenching, but that looks like a great tool for the purpose.

Oh, and I'd watch the video, helpful or not!

I was looking for a post to find out where to buy a 15 to 16 inch bucket for a BT1000 backhoe on my L 39 and ran across this. Very interesting invention. I woudl imagine some irrigation companies might like that for running water lines. Great pictures too. Thanks! Now on to my search on where to buy a bucket!

That is exactly what I need! I have a 12in bucket on my BX... there is an option for an 8in but yours looks ideal for trenching for water lines. I have several hundred feet of water lines to install and I don't want to do so much damage. How do I suck up and get one???

Hey thanks for the feedback. I thought someone else might be interested since there really aren't any great options for narrow trenches with the bx25/bx24. I need to figure out the cost of these. How about I let you know.

Looks like it works very very well. Congratulations.

I had looked at something like this trencher "fang", but it is for pretty large machines as the examples show. Adapting these type of options for smaller tractors are what some small aftermarket people like Michigan Iron, Bxpanded, Brotek, Ken's Bucket Hooks, etc. have taken on...good for them and good for you and your BIL!

Low sides on bucket and length seem to be key points. It would also seem a consideration would be for a portion of trencher bucket to be as wide as the BH pin and frame width for protection when trenching at deeper depths.

TRENCHING FANGS

The following design has the shallow sides and length.

Really great idea and design!

I've got the Bro-Tek ripper tooth on my BX23's backhoe. I think they make a trenching attachment for it, but I've never seen it. And it would have to be really good to work as well as your custom made one. Well done.

My soil is such gummy clay that I have trouble getting it to come off my ripper tooth sometimes. So a trencher bucket would be useless to me. I'd have to dig the clay out of it after every scoop. If I need to trench, I'll rent a trencher.

Nice build.

It looks very similar in design to what I call the Scandinavian pattern excavator trenching buckets. Long flatter nose than the NA standard. The steps in the back of your design are interesting.

Here's the BroTek trencher with the ripper tooth. It worked great for me for putting in a power line to my garage. You said you'd never seen one so here it is! One thing I learned while trenching was to try to trench in one direction...you get a better/deeper trench. I tried going over the trench to clean it up but only succeeded in pushing the previous spoils back into the trench with the BX's rear tires. Some shovel cleanup was all that was needed to clear the trench but like I said, if you can go in one direction with your trench you get a nicer trench (with the BroTek unit)
