Valid point about the 220v. That is exactly why my EU3000IS is never used for house backup..have a 6kW 110/220v quiet diesel for that, used to use the worlds loudest 5kW Coleman, 25+ years old...works great but ear splitting, still keep it around for a backup to the backup.:p

If you are willing to get a little larger Honda than the EU series, the EP2500 is a great little unit. I have on and it is quite, powerful, easy on fuel, weighs less than 100lbs and is very reliable. Also costs less than $800.

I have had good luck with the Yamaha EF2400IS. It will run our camper AC, but we have to limit what else is turned on in the rv. Went this route as it was a little larger than the 2000 Watt Hondas without having to go to the 3000. Local dealer met the online pricing.

I had to dig up this old thread to thank everyone for their advice. I bought a Honda EU 2000 inverter today. I borrowed a friend's Honda, and found out I could power the lights in the pole barn and a circular saw just fine-the lights will work with eco-power switch on-the darn thing just sits there and hums-put it outside the door and shut it, you can't even hear the generator over a radio!

Thanks again,

Will

Great machine ! Ran mine at MIL's during the ice storm to keep her pellet stove and lights on , 14 hours on a gallon of gas !

Am I reading this right 13 hours per gallon of gas under how much of a load? Even if its only half load that is great fuel usage. If I were going to go with a gas unit that is the one I would use.

My first big boat had no generator. I bought a Honda 2000 back in 1999 for $865. It would run our 6,500BTU AC or the 1500 Watt Heater in the boat, the Battery Charger, and the small fridge for 10 hours on 1 gallon of fuel. To run the microwave or water heater I would have to shut the AC off but it was great. Used that thing for 4 years and sold it for $850 on EBAY.

Very impressive fuel consumption for a gas generator. I would guess these are inverter generators that auto throttle dependent on load?

That is kind of the whole idea of an inverter. It regulates voltage and frequency independent of engine speed.
