Small Blessings

Well...darn. 6" of powdery fluff last night. Went to town for coffee. Had only minor problem getting through the state's plow berm then got totally stupid on the way home. Stopped IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLOW BERM to pick up my newspaper. Just as I came to full stop I realized what I had done. Yep, couldn't move an inch. Out with snowblower after breakfast and cleared everything but where the car was, took a breakl, grabbed shoves and cleared snow around car. Pulled right out. Back on the blower t clear that spot in the driveway....nope. Wheel fell off blower with just one short pass to finish.

Managed to get the wheel back on but almost gave myself a hernia getting the machine up where I could slip the wheel on. Horsed 60' back to the garage and only had to work the wheel further back on the axle a few time. Close inspection showed that the drive mechanism is 1/4" bolt that pins the wheel to the axle. Near as I can tell it is just a comon grade bolt. Waiting for a buddy to show up and help get that side off the ground so we can match up the wheel/axle holes.
That sucks. I don't see a tractor in your profile but that's one of the nice things about hydraulics; they lift things which my back can no longer handle.
I really enjoy cold weather in winter, and hot weather in summer. I'm just as happy walking on a Lake Michigan beach when it's 95F or sitting on an overturned bucket in the middle of a frozen lake when it's -10F. Anytime outside is enjoyable for me.
About the time that trout fishing picks up the blackflies come out. They're gone by June, replaced by mosquitos. When it gets over 80 the mosquitos go away but the deer flies come out. As mentioned before I don't do heat well... if it never got above 60 I would be perfectly happy. The only good things about summer are tomatoes, corn, and cucumbers. ;)

And women in bikinis, of course. :p

Not me. If I was rich I would work in summer, then take the winter off to go snow sledding, snow shoeing, and ice fishing.

Come to think of it, the first two are part of what I get paid to do now. ;)
If I liked two things about my job, I probably wouldn't have retired. There is no substitute for doing something you love.

Best,
