SLT 1550 PTO clutch removal

New member here. Having trouble removing the 5/8" bolt that holds the PTO
clutch to the crankshaft. Any tips on preventing the whole thing from spinning? Thanks.

In the service manual this is what is says on how to remove the PTO bolt.

Note: An impact and socket will be most effective. Otherwise it may be nesessary to block the flywheel ring-gear to prevent the crankshaft from turning

Why do you need to remove the PTO clutch? Are you replacing the drive belt? If so look here for some options...

Thanks OldMachinist. I'm going to buy the right tools for the job. I've been putting off getting air tools for way too long. Might be sleeping in the garage once the Old Lady finds out how much I spent.

Thanks for the info CubUser, yes I am replacing the drive belt.

To replace the drive belt...
Remove the moving deck to get access to the clutch.
You'll notice that when you put a 5/8 socket on it that it just turns the whole flywheel unit...You will need to chock the flywheel.
To get to the flywheel ...open the hood and you will need to remove the black cover. (8 screws).

On the side of the flywheel you will see some holes...you can stick a screwdriver or socket extension in there an it will bind against whatever it hits.

Now you can unscrew the clutch nut.

The tabs that hold the belt in can be easily bent...away to install and back once its installed.
I would leave them on and not grind them away.
If you cut or grind em off...and the belt should ever get loose...you risk the possibility of having to remove the clutch again...and worse damaging the deck belt too.
