Slow Moving Vehicle Sign SMV is an accessory or comes with a new tractor?

I disagree. A properly maintained SMV will be highly visible with a distinctive shape in daylight or darkness. My biggest gripe about SMV emblems lies with the morons that use them as driveway delineators. They are the ones that should be cited.

^^agree^^ Here in WI, the statutes says you need the "newer" design that is brighter and more reflective. It looks just like the old one but is better made. see below:

The new ones reflect light at least 500 ft away:

I just installed my smv sign on the Toolcat that had no hardware or location to install the bracket. I would much rather be seen than not.

Wagtail...What is your area like regarding agriculture and equipment on roads; that kind of thing? Do the local police involve themselves or just leave it alone? Is it big equipment or small utility tractors? Big grain farms or small lots for grazing? I've looked where you live and it sure looks like a beautiful area.

Tassie is a very rural State with just over 515,000 population, half of which live in the 'Big Smokes'... the rest are spread over wee towns or properties. Roughly, the Central & North have the rich red soil for vegetable crops, but graziering for cattle/sheep is ubiquitous. Here on the East Coast it's mainly dairy, meat cattle, lamb/mutton and wool. The tractors, here on the working properties, are typically 70-90hp as haying (a single cutting, usually) is one of the largest tasks. The State Police (all that we have... city, town & rural) are very laid back and accommodating. Tractors and farm vehicles/implements (balers, silage wrappers,etc...) aren't bothered. Even on 'major' Highways as they know they're only going a fairly short distance.

The State tends to put the onus on the individual to be responsible with very few speed limit signs displayed... Mostly (rural) the roads are posted either 80kph/100kph with a sign beneath saying "Drive to the Conditions"... which includes SMV's... AND graziers shifting stock!

I've seen large crop sprayers, 100hp+ tractors and assorted large implements being driven on the main highway (110kph). No 'cop' escort required, although something exceptionally large will have a "Pilot Vehicle" warning oncoming traffic.

Thank you, Wagtail. Have you ever posted any pictures of there?

Well, I guess the SMV should be removed when the vehicle is parked and within sight of a roadway, for it is no longer slow moving. Just like you have to remove or cover them for transport.

I would bet that an SMV is meaningless to the type of Moron that crashes into the back of slow moving equipment. And you can't tell me that a high quality amber rotating light is not more visible and catches ones attention more at night than an SMV.

Still think they are pretty much useless.

In WI, they say you need that rotating light if you are plowing snow in the road right of way.

I have a hidden driveway. I have set up cones, lights, strobes and beacons over the years at the crest of the hill when removing snow at the entrance of my driveway. It's a pain. I have an old school twin rotating lamp, flashers and a (useless) SMV, but all that would not be seen in time.

Precisely!

:drink: definitely
Even the Amish buggies here in PA must have a SMV placard on the back when traveling on public roads.

When I do snow work out at the end of the drive, the smv sign is pointed either across the road or towards my house. When dad had his truck in the roadway plowing the end of his drive, he needed the beacon. They have not said anything about his deere garden tractor yet.

If you ride around in a flat black plywood box at night, I agree, an SMV has probably saved your life a few times.

If a tractor had a few thousand dollars worth of lighting, I would consider it absurd to fine that operator if he was absent an SMV.
