I have basic QD couplers on my FEL and have always struggled to get a grip on the straight outer collar to release them. I am sure this isn't an original solution but I figured I'd pass it along since it's a cheap easy fix. Attach two hose clamps in a loop with the heads set about 180 degrees apart onto the outer collar and the QDs are almost as easy to disconnect as the fancy ones with the finger grips.
