I have a 10 year old 5' bush hog with a slip clutch on it that that has never been maintained. Well this weekend I loosened all the bolts and attempted to have the clutch slip but was not able to make it slip. With all the tension off the springs I ran it through heavy grass, cut low into the dirt and even over some large brush without the clutch slipping. Do they come apart some how?

Spray some diesel fuel or kerosene on the disk & let set then try mowing again with the bolts loose. Should penetrate the rust bond & free the clutch. MikeD74T

I'd suggest it be disassembled and the pieces all cleaned up.

If you've got the 8-bolt EuroCardan like mine, remove all eight Nyloc nuts. When the bolts are subsequently removed, the whole thing should pretty much fall apart. There's an exploded view here: Eurocardan Technical Pages from Agri Supply® - Where we have Something for Everyone for your Farm Shop & Home

There's a possibility that one or both friction discs (#4) may be stuck to the friction plates #3, #6, or #8 (or #9 or #10, depending upon which variant you have). The discs are replaceable for about $13 bucks a pair. You might want new Nyloc nuts, everything else you should be able to clean up.
