Skunks

This will take care of the smell, it works like a charm.

1 quart of Hydrogen Peroxide 3%

1/4 cup baking soda

1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid soap (dish soap)

One quart of water can be added for a large dog, put it on the dog for about 5 min, work it into the area where the smell is the worst. Rinse off, my neighbors dog got it and his mother was staying there after the flood of 97, she is allergic to the dog, after getting a bath in this the dog did not set off her reactions.

Hope this helps.

If you catch them send them my way, my local skunks would love some extra company. Been feeding my skunks for years. After about a year they get accustomed to you and you can actually hand feed them, they ain't dumb, they know where the foods coming from. Here's some of my local ones, some feeding with the red fox's I also feed. One picture is of mom taking the kids out for a strole one day from under my back porch. And yes they all have names. :)

LOL:D
Better than guard dogs I'll bet. If I was a thief I'd think twice about headin for your house.

If you got one there's a good chance you'll have more.
I spread grub & ant killer on the lawn and seems to work.

DieselPower.
I'd say you got best home security system going. ;)

DieselPower has it right!

If I had tame skunks protecting my farm I would not have to deal with trespassers or have trouble getting evidence on them.

I claim protection skunks as a home based business opportunity if DieselPower does not want it. I am now looking for franchisee investors. Pure bred, hand trained skunks for home protection straight from DieselPower's farm, $2500 each, homeowner's insurance discount up to 25%.

I catch a few skunks every year in box traps baited with peanut butter coated marshmellows set in my sweetcorn for coons. The best way I found to dispatch them without getting sprayed is to aproach upwind with a shotgun and shoot them in the head from 15-20 yards using #6 shot. I have taken out dozens of them this way and have not had one spray yet. Other folks I know throw a tarp over the traps and take them to water for drowning, but I find the shotgun blast to the head to be much faster and less risky.

Skunks don't bother me at all, one thing I learned is they will give you all kinds of warnings before they spray, first they raise or flick the tail next they start backing up your way with raised tail, they also pat their front feet on the ground when they get agitated. Dogs get em ticked off fast, my dog shredded one but he got sprayed good, if you've ever been real close to the release it doesn't even smell like skunk, it's more of a chemical weapon that's kinda of like strong onions, never got it in the eyes but that must be bad, seen the dog put his head/face down in the dirt and run full speed trying to "scrape" it off.

They don't seem much intimidated by humans, I've had them walk right past me within reach when sitting out back by our outdoor fireplace, My brother screamed like a little girl and jumped on a picnic table, I didn't even flinch.
Had a mother with little ones in tow walk right between my legs one night as I was following them around the yard with my 9 year old daughter on my back, they looked like they were all connected they way they snaked around, must have poor eyesight.

I've trapped them in have a heart traps and just slowly walked up to the cage picked it up slowly and put it in the trunk of my car for relocation.

We had a smoke house back of the house where I grew up. I think one of our dogs trapped a skunk in there, and they had it out. My car was parked near the smoke house. Well, for months after that, I could still smell the skunk when I got to a certain speed.
