I find the trees pull out much easier when the ground is saturated. I am able to lift bigger trees when it is wet -- assuming I can get to them.

Yep. Springtime is best right after frost goes out. Ground is heaved from frost and roots don't have a tight grip.

First thoughts are that this tree puller will work well with bigger yaupons but, seems to just cut the smaller stuff, 1" and smaller, wherever you clamp on it.

When pulling small shrubs I just dig into the ground a little while clamping and grasping a part of the roots. Sometimes it helps from it just breaking off. I guess it sorta holds onto the dirt ball instead of the stem.

That's a nice fit for your LS.
