I have re-posted the photograph of the shaft damage. Please review the photograph carefully, It shows the the wear of the shaft. It was dark in the garage, so I could not get a better photograph.

The damage is substantial, 24/4ths of the key way is worn away.

some parts of the linkage are heavy duty, like the linkage that directly connects to the shaft, but other parts are merely rubber bushings. Not much mechanical advantage, simply linkage from the shaft to the operator's hand, plus some shock absorption to, I assume, make for a smoother transition from forward to reverse.

It looks like the key way is intact but the sidewall is missing. After disassembling the pump do you think you could weld the shaft up and turn it back smooth? What are the odds of locating a new part?

I guess I am more optimistic. Removing the pump is a major amount of work.

I think that I can merely drill and tap some set screws on the lever and also shave off a bit more of the center of the clamp that binds to the shaft.(I have attached a photograph of the linkage with a circle of the area that I will modify. I also will use a stainless steel bolt and double nut it so the vibration does not cause it to loosen again. I could also attempt to lay a metal fragment in the worn spot next to the key and let the clamp bind it.

The best I can tell with a micrometer, the shaft is a quite round, at .675 inches.

More feedback would be appreciated.

Ok, I get it now. Your repair is certainly worth a try. Another option, if you can reach, grind a flat across the top of shaft then place a pin/bolt through the lever.

The shaft was not wore, it was chipped off, please review the photograph. The second photograph, when enlarged offers great detail of the chip and the shaft.

I had dropped the shaft key into the bowels of the skid steer and when using a magnet to get it, this was also stuck to the magnet.

I would like to "glue" it back in place and still use the methods described in prior posts to secure the linkage to the shaft.

Again, any additional feedback would be appreciated.

I reinstalled the bracket to the shaft. I have attached a photograph of my modifications. I have doubled up on the set screws. Two for each hole. That way they bind against each other and do not come lose.

I suspect the design issue is that the "stop" for the forward and reverse motion of the linkage occurs at the shaft, instead of the linkage. So normal human behavior would be to push the levers a bit harder to go faster. Over time this puts a lot of stress and wear on the shaft and related collar and therefore it comes loose.

I now have removed the linkage from the other side. It also was loose and shows wear.
