I have just purchased a new (to me) L3010 and am wondering about what size rotary cutter people have been using with this size tractor. I have been using a pretty heavy 6' cutter (about 850 pounds) behind an M4700 and I'm not sure about using with the 3010. I would be cutting off pasture grass and weeds about 3' tall in grown-up fairly level fields. My guess would be that a 5' hog would be better matched to the 3010, but is anyone using a 6'er?
I am saving in the attachment cookie jar for a 5' tiller (and PHD and cultivater and landscape rake and......), but if I really need to get another cutter to keep from tearing up the tractor I will.
Do have a FEL on the 3010?
If u do or have some front weights it can't hurt to try out the 6' cutter.
U will be under powered but if u go slower that helps.
I ran a 5' behind an L2900 and for most of my mowing I wished I had a 6'.
I have a 6' LP behind my 35D and it works great.
Tim,
Yes, I have a FEL on the tractor, but my R4 tires are not loaded. But with that heavy a cutter sitting that far behind the tractor, it would probably be a good idea to further weight down the front end.
I figured I would need to go slower than I did on the M4700, but I just wanted to make sure that just running the cutter wouldn't tear up the PTO on the tractor or anything. I cut about 40 - 45 acres 3 times a year, and being able to run a 6' cutter instead of a 5' one represents several hours of time a year (besides the fact that I already have the 6' cutter). I guess that being able to run a smaller cutter at a faster ground speed would make up some of this difference, though.
