I’m going to buy a 7’ Land Pride and they come with either a single or double tail wheel. What do I want? I’ve only ever had a single.

Go with an 8 foot twin blade cutter. 7 foot is an awkward size

What's the terrain you are mowing like? My place has a "plethora" of ground squirrel holes and badger holes; my mower has only the one rear wheel. When that wheel drops into a hole it slams the mower against the ground and depending on the terrain around the hole a lot of times the mower blades hit dirt. Having two tail wheels should prevent that from happening.

I have one of each and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I've got an L6060. What's your opinion on if I have enough HP for an 8' chopper?

Should be no problem. If you're into tougher material, just slow down so the mower blades aren't taking so much of a bite.

Again, what terrain are you mowing? If it is fairly level a big mower is fine. If you have a lot of dips and ridges then the smaller the mower the easier it is to cleanly mow. A big mower will not be able to reach into the low spots. On my place, even my 6' mower spends a lot of time with digging into the ground with the side plates.

A twin spindle Bush Hog 3008 makes a lot better cut than a single spindle hog...is something I learned!
A customer I just mowed a field for, that hadn't been mowed in 5 or more years had his niece watching out for me, told me that he wanted to see me. He came out and corrected her, saying he didn't want to see me, he wanted to see the mower, because it mowed like a finish mower but he knew a finish mower would never have stood up to what I was cutting the day before. I told him it was definitely a Bush Hog, and that it was in need of new blades, but I hadn't put them on yet, after see what the field looked like on our drive thru.

That’s a nice cut! Don’t have that much flat land on 140 acres.

Cutting open areas maybe not much difference. Significant part of our cutting is backing into and around trees and woods line where watching out for a single wheel may have an advantage.
