I have an lift that has just a single line to the cylinder, i.e., pressure up, gravity down. My tractor, NH TN75, has a setup for front end loader with two spool valves and a third spool valve. If I just hook one line in to any valve, to let pressure off one side opens pressure to the other side. But the other side doesn't have anywhere for the fluid to go, so the internal pressure relief valve has to be opening. Is that ok? How else can I hook up a single pressure line? Thanks.

What you have is called a SA (single acting) cylinder. The way you have it hooked up is fine, the PRV (pressure relief valve) is doing it's job and it's only for a few seconds so no harm will be done.
You can get a valve specifically for operating SA cylinders, or run a hose from the open port opposite the one the SA cylinder is plugged into and hook it to the sump...but I wouldn't bother.
