Seems like there have been quite a few hydraulics questions lately so I figured I'd add one more. I have one set of remotes (2 quick-connect ports) on my Kubota Grand L3300 and I can't quite get my brain around how a single acting cylinder would work with this setup. I would like to use a single acting cylinder for my dump trailer so I have the option to use a 12V hydraulic power pack. Do the remotes need a double acting cylinder or is there an internal bypass that would allow a single acting cylinder to work? Thanks for any input!

You can hook a single acting cylinder to one of the ports. When you move the control lever in the direction that applies pressure to the port you are connected to, the cylinder will extend. When you move the lever in the other direction, pressure will be applied to the port you are not connected to. Since there is nothing connected to this port, there will be no flow in this direction and your safety valve will open and the fluid will take that path to return to the resovoir. At the same time, the port that the cylinder IS connected to will also be opened to return to the resovoir and the weight of the trailer will lower the bed and force the fluid back to the resovoir.

To add to what ronmar said.. if you have really nice remotes.. they may have a 'float' position as well as the lift/retract positions. in that case, as is on my NH .. You use 1 port to lift, and then to relax the cyl, I push past the retract, and into float.. etc.

Best Bet is to find where you could plumb the second return line back to the Hyd resivor. While the pressure relief valve will bypass the extra pressure it will put full press on that hose unessarly. On some tractors Hyd systems this will also make the valve hard to work when letting down. On my MF 35 I just put a QD fitting on the Hyd filler plug as Iam using a one way cyl on the 2 way valve. Then every time I hook the unit with the one way I just couple the extra line to the filler.

I just made a dump trailor for my BX2660 (3'X6'X16") with 2 sa cyl and I'm going to tee into the pressure line with a MQC that goes to the trailor and then plum a valve something like this Surplus Center - HYDRA FORCE 12 VDC N.C. SOLENOID VALVE to go back to tank. I don't like my relief valve being open that long waiting on it to bleed back down.
