I think I have a good idea for a quick cheap tree limb trimmer. Any deer hunters out there that rifle hunt know why I'm tossing around this idea. What I picture in my mind is a 5 foot long piece of angle iron with a v cut in one end. The other end would be bolted to the top of my front end loader bucket. I have a heavy piece of 3"x5" angle iron on the top of the bucket already. I think it would work great for small limbs 2" in diameter and smaller. I would like some feedback. Any input would be appreciated.

Okay, give it a shot, but rather than a front-facing edge, go with a pull type cutter design, so you can use the downward hydraulic pressure, weight and gravity to cut through... fashioned out of your stock, of course:

Great idea! I plan on trying to get it going in the morning before I go to the deer lease. Thanks!

Unless you don't care at all about the pruned tree, I think a push cut from the bottom would be better. A pull cut from the top will tear the bark down the tree and leave a big wound that will be much more damaging and difficult for the tree to seal off. Maybe a push cut to start and a pull cut to finish if you care about the future tree and it's possible value.
