I'm kinda slow...… Just dawned on me you are talking about letting the camera ride the kite string!!!! :)

To add to this I use a 9' kite, gets everything up with no problems, just a standard delta pattern with one line, there is a variant which is like a box kite within a delta, it has a name but I cannot recall it but they are considerably more $$$$$$$$$.
I found 6' was not quite enough and although only a Gopro it felt the load.

Delta Conyne is the delta box configuration.

I havebeen down the KAP (Kite Aerial Photography) track and found it was very bouncy, a shock cord helped a little but I found the Picavet essential.
Also found that the further down the line the camera was the less pronounced the shock from gusts etc.
I use a Gopro and a Panasonic and for stills they are good and both can be set up for XX frames per minute, I used every five seconds for stills.
