Just got home - took the back way, and came up on a lovely 3410 - FEL, R4's, and an old 6 foot cutter on the back. He was traveling at a good clip, flashers on, seemed aware of his surroundings, even though it was dusk.

ROPs was folded down, though.

Owwwww.

I know I not in the majority here, but I have a gas station about a mile down the road, and that's where I plan to get my diesel. I'll avoid rush hour, just tool down the road on the weekends. I have a seatbelt, ROPS, and 4100lbs of tractor (w/FEL): the only thing I lack is momentum. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Don't feel bad, Dave; I need mo' mentum, too. I could use all the mentum I could get.

Dave, I do the same thing when the tractor is home. Living in a semi rural town, its nothing to see tractors of every size on the road. Just be smart, and give yourself plenty of room to slow down and stop. Somthing about only having rear brakes makes tractors handle a little different than other vehicles.

Mentum? does that come in a six pak?

I don't know about other makes, but my Kubota owners manual says to disconnect 4 wheel drive whle on hard surface roads. Something aobut increased tire wear. Don't know if you're doing that or not, just thought I'd pass it along. .

Hey guys,

I leave the tractor in 2wd unless I'm engaging ground equipment. The tractor stops quick enough, but reaching the top speed of 15mph is a bit unrealistic with R4's. It feels like I'm on a vibrating bed. Yup, I'm old enough to remember when they had them in motels, well at least at the ones we could afford. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I'm planning on doing the same thing with a truck plaza just a mile or so down the road. A top speec of 15 mph sounds neat. Mine tops out at 13.1 according to my manual. Even as close as the station is I still might save time loading it on the trailer and towing it down there and back. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I live about 20 miles from SC. Their diesel is .30 cents a gallon cheaper than in WNC. I take a 55 gallon barrel down there and fill it up about every 3 months for under $60. I bought a barrel pump from Harbor Freight for $20. It keeps me off of the road.

I had to take my 670 to my rental house for some work. the distance was about 10 miles. Since I've no trailer, had to drive it.

It wasn't too bad a trip. Took just under an hour and I did have a friend follow me in his pickup (for safety's sake).

I was mostly concerned about traffic coming up behind me on blind curves. Well, the pick up "escort" worked great!

Yesterday I saw a guy drive a yardman lawn tractor approximately 3 miles on a back road. I passed him on my way into town to run an errand and 30 minutes later I passed him again furter down the road. He did not get as far as my house, so I am estimateing the 3 miles but it was at least 2.5.
