Anyone have any idea what is wrong with my sycamore tree (picture attached)? It just doesn't seem to be leafing out this year and there are small dead leaves intermixed with the mature healthy ones. We had plenty of water this spring (maybe too much???) and I don't recall it getting zapped by a spring frost. Last year it did get zapped but the little leaves just died and were replaced by mature healthy ones that leafed the tree out by June.

My guess is anthracnose. They are susceptible it. They can be sprayed but it will porbably take a commercial sprayer for that size tree. It will also continue to grow new leaves without spraying and eventually shake it as the weather warms but will porbably get it again next year.

As RaT said, it sounds like anthracnose. See web link below for more info.

Lowes Home Improvement stores have a book that you can look up tree diseases with. I found the exact problem for my magnolia. The problem came when I was unwilling to use Sevin to spray the tree. Rather have a dead tree than Cancer... thanks anyway.
