I worked this weekend with my friends to get some shrimp boats back in the Bayou. We used another Shrimp boat to pull them off and a 20ft aluminum boat to help move them arround once they where off. It was a major task. These boats where all tied up in a slip during Katrina. We figured there was at least a 20' storm surge. The boats were in Bayou La Batre, Alabama(just south of Mobile).

Here is the 20' boat I used as a push boat. It has a 150 four stroke Yamaha. The shrimp boats were 95' long. Once of the ground it would do the job.

Here is a shot of one on the dock. It is held up by only four pilings. It has been lifted off by a crane on a barge.

the next two are of the one that we tried to get off and it rolled on over into the water.

We were pulling on the keel. We had the ropes ran under the bottom and tied to the keel and then tied to the boat we were pulling with. It slid and caught on some track used to launch new boats.

Here we are rigging some ropes on the top side so we could pull the top one way while we pulled the bottom the other. We had already tied the boat off so it would not roll while we were rigging.

Here is a shot of a trac hoe that tried to help us right the boat. We were pulling with another shrimp boat on the mast and he was lifting on the out rigger trying to roll it back over. It is normally used to move oyster shell arround to make new beds. If you look close you can see the outrigger on the deck of the barge

It is now upright thanks to the crane on the barge.

We were using 2" nylon rope to pull on these boats with. we had four lines pulling. We snapped the 2" lines a couple of times. I was running the push boat and taking pics while they were pulling. I was way away while they were pulling and got some good video of the ropes breaking and the other boat rolling on to it side.

Here is a shot of a 95' shrimp boat cross ways of my friends haul out.

Here is a shot of a little 25' bay boat on the opposite side of the road from the bayou. If you look on the left side of the pic you'll see a power pole. This boat went probly 300 yards from the bayou and under the power lines to rest where it is.
