Shredders defined

I keep hearing about "shredders", but I haven't heard any actual descriptions of what they are. Is this another name for heavy rotary cutters with blades that pivot on pins? We call them bush hogs around here, borrowing the name from that popular brand. I've got acres of pasture to wrest back from the forest, and will be using ours a lot. If a shredder is something new, maybe it's something I need to invest in.

Like you said, "Bush Hog" is a brand name, and I think in this country the "official" name, if such exists, is rotary cutter. But in different parts of the country and world, they are known as brush hog, shredder, slasher, and I'm not sure of what else.
