My wife and i do a small informal rescue. Seems like a breed i never thought I would want one of has become my favorite.
We are housing 15 chihuahua currently. They are the best little dogs. Very affectionate and cuddly. We have adopted a couple of seniors whose owners either passed, or were put into assisted living and could no longer keep them, and they will remain with us till the end.
Even with the time required and expenses its been a very rewarding endeavor with all of them but the seniors really seem to show their appreciation and are happy just to be there.
When I get home from work this is what my lap looks like till its time to go bed.

Good for you! I can handle one dog at a time, but have a healthy respect for those who give homes to the unwanted.
