just finished my driveway with my 2210 it hasd a fel and scraper. the drive is stone and slope towards the road so the grade changing was a problem. not sure how the float works when i try it the tractor just rides up.
Moved a lot of snow though

Good morning

It was probably riding up with float because you do not have the bucket level. All float does is all the loader to follow the changes in the contour of the land. However, if the cutting edge is slightly angled down, then it has the tendency to dig in and therefore it will cause the front end to lift up. The other case could be is that when you engage float, there is already pressure on the bucket. This will also cause the tractor to ride up.
Good luck

I find what works best for me (for slope/grade change) is to first put the loader in float and slightly angle the bucket upwards (from level) and then release the loader from float. The loader will tend to stay fixed and not move as much, which helps preventing the tractor to rise up.

Ok - I give - how do you "engage float"? I found that the best plowing was with the back of the bucket about an inch of the ground and angled down so the front edge was scraping the pavement. Anything less than that and the bucket seemed to become a large ski and ride up the snow...

Hi

On the 430 loader, you engage float by quickly snapping the joystick forward. That locks the bucket. So if you have the bucket level, it will "float" along the ground and will follow the contour.

I am sure that your loader will engage the same way, however, you should check your manual.

Good luck

I guess that I have had the same problem as the person with the 2210. Can I quickly snap the joy stick forward to get float on my 4010 with 410 loader? When I've tried it, the bucket goes down and raises the front wheels off the ground before it goes into float.

Guess I'll have to try it. Snapping it forward and having the front end go through its lift up and all is kinda unsettling though.

Went through the "float" business on the 3pt, too. Turns out it floats in the center position. In that position, you can very easily lift the draft arms up by hand. So, in the future, I'll back up to an implement and place it lower than I need it to be and then get off and move the arms up by hand to place them on the implement.

If the bucket is still going down when you engage float, then maybe you should have it looked at by the dealer. My suspicions are, however, that you are not doing it quickly or hard enough.

Also, if it bothers you to have the front of the tractor raise up, you can practice locking the loader in float with the bucket off the ground. Put the bucket about a foot or so off the ground and try to use float.
Good luck

Ralph,

If you lift the 410 up, curl it to the desired angle, then just push the SCV forward quickly, you should feel it pop into the "float" position and watch the loader drop relatively gently. If not, you have a problem with the SCV or...? Definitely have it checked out. I can't count the number of times I've floated my 410 (and now the front blower). The pop, or snap, as the stick goes into the float position is easy to feel.

I've picked my front tires off too, but never when I've snapped into float.

We received a bit O' the white stuff as well. See Pic. With the blacktop driveway I didn't find the angle to be much of an issue - it glides across it quite well.
