Should I Paint my Carry All?

Hello,

I'm retired, have the time, just finished building a greenhouse for my wife, and am planning on building a Carry All. Just have to keep busy. I've seen most of the You Tube Videos on building a carry all and most of them use pressure treated wood.

I'm toying with the idea of using 2" non-pressure treated boards and painting them John Deere green. Opinions wanted, but don't comment if you think I'm crazy to do it . . . just looking for pros and cons.

I'm not using wood at all. That just adds weight and is prone to rot.

Paint or any other sealant protects material. It will make it last longer. Doesn't matter if we are talking metal & rust or wood & rot.

When I built mine about 10 years ago I used some old non-treated 2x's I had laying around, treated them with a few coats used engine oil letting it soak in the hot sun between each until it was absorbed. Sits outside all the time and still has the same boards on it, still solid.

Nothing wrong with painting non PT wood, most trim on houses painted wood. Depending on weather and sun good exterior paint should last .:drink:

Nothing wrong with your plan. Just use a good exterior primer.

Painted wood decking boards on piers seem to hold up well, even though they are just above the water. They usually don't fail simultaneously. Make them easy to replace individually.

Friend built a small horse coral. He treat the post ends in boiling linseed oil and diesel fuel. No idea where he got this formula. 55 gallon barrel and propane fired weed burner. A real explosive situation. However - he kept the posts in this boiling concoction for about four hours. They are still rock solid after thirty years.
