Should I cab or not. Getting ready to buy

Cabs make service work half again as costly.

Don't break anything! ;-)

Congratulations to the OP on buying a real nice tractor! Do keep us updated on how you like it and some of your projects. And yes, please post pictures when you get it home.

I am very close to buying my first tractor. One of the last decisions I need to make is if I should get the cab version or not. I currently live in FL and the endless summer is brutal and the AC seems inviting. Problem is I am moving to middle TN and not sure if the cab is needed as much there. I know it gets colder and I know there are seasons and it is something I have not experienced in 30 years.

I am a little worried about the cab height and how it might limit the places the tractor can go. I also know most of the time will be spent with the rotary cutter in the open areas. I don't think I will be crashing through the woods with the tractor but I don't want to limit to much where I can go. I guess I am in kinda a chicken / egg situation. I need a tractor but I am not sure exactly what I will be doing yet except mowing the open spaces. I would love to hear opinions.
Cabs give you varying degrees of comfort depending on where you live but there is one consideration not often mentioned: safety.
The obvious one is a rollover situation but in my case I had a hydraulic burst on the FEL pipe which sprayed hot oil all over the front of the cab. Had I not had a cab I would have had the full force in my face and upper body with unknown consequences. When I was looking for a used tractor I wasn’t bothered whether or not it had a cab. I just went with the best deal. I sure am happy now that the one I got has a cab.

I’ve had both. Bought a MX5800 with ROPS brand new in 2018. Opted for no cab because “I’m tough and hats are cheap.” Didn’t like the sun beating down on me so I bought a hard canopy with integrated fan. That helped some, but was still HOT in the summer and COLD in the winter. 3 weeks ago, I traded in my 3 year old tractor with 57 hours on it for a M4-071 deluxe. I’ve put 25 hours on it so far. I use it for woods clearing with a Lane Shark and open field mowing as well as loader/grapple work. No heat. No dust. Doesn’t matter to me if it’s raining a little. Broken glass would be expensive, but KTAC insurance has a $250 deductible. I can’t fathom a situation where I’ll ever regret my cabbed tractor.

By all means get the cab. I have open station and added a cab due to our Iowa winters. No regrets other than I didn’t get it sooner. I went with OTC cab that is removable which makes getting to the backhoe easy. If you are thinking of getting a backhoe attachment make sure your cab works with it. Good luck.

Cab it is :) I figure life is short and I might as well be comfortable ;)
Let us know how you like it after a while. My tractor does not have a cab, it does have a canopy, which is a big help in the summer. It sucks in the winter, as it shades the operator. I have gotten mighty cold when pushing snow in the shade. Good luck with your purchase, and I am sure you will love it.

With the factory installed cab will never be removed
Once its on its always gonna be on! Not gonna mess
with the A/C hookups etc. Plus the factory installed
cab is sealed so no dust etc. Most of the time when
cutting grass the huge cloud of dust and grass is filling
the air I will be comfy in the cab with a/c outside air
closed off. When I finish I come in the house I will mot
hear my wife say take your filthy clothes off on the porch and get in the shower! Those days are gone, thank GOD!
