You should be able to work a deal on an LX4 with a loader purchase at a Deere dealer. Have them go over the machine for you and you will have some dealer support on your used machine...
Should I buy this used JD model 4100?

Do you think they would do that? I definately want a loader, and it would be nice if they would do a deal on the loader, brush cutter and box blade. I would also buy maintenance parts from them.
I have to say my first experience at the dealership was not verypositive. We went in one morning, only customers in the store, looking to buy a new 4110 or 2210 and were basically blown off. No test ride, no helps from sales at all till we walked over and asked for it. At that point we were told "the pamphlets are over on the wall"
I might have to drive a bit farther down the road to the next dealership for my attachments..., maybe I just got a bad egg?

Where in NY was your property? I've been to Allen's Farm Equip outside of Albany (near the VT border) - good people, and have also used Martinka's in southwest VT- also very nice to deal with.

Lucky for you, your main needs will deal with the service dept.
Go by and talk to them about installing the loader and they should be glad to get your service work.If you don't like the deal on your implement package, then price it out with woods or land pride equipment.

I added a new 410 loader to my used 4100. The dealer near me was happy to sell it to me and he had one in stock.
His service department was swamped and he was willing to go a couple $hundred cheaper if I installed myself, so I took it home on a pallet in the back of my truck.
Hardest part of the install was unloading it from the truck.
Bolting on the brackets and assembling the hydraulics was simple enough.
Beware that there is an error in the loader installation manual (at least the one I had) concerning which hydraulic hose goes where.

Rick----what is the proper order for those hoses---i got no manual with the loader and just do it by "hit and miss" ----its frustrating to say the least.

P.S. wondering if this leads to the "float" forcing the bucket to tilt all the way up no matter where I set it to before engaging float or if I am just not hitting the float mark right.

Check the JD website for the loader install manual - maybe its on-line. The install manual also has the recommended ballast, etc.
I don't have a scanner or camera handy, but looking at the diagram in the 4100 operator's manual, the SCV connectors:

Viewed from the front #1 is the top, out-board connector.
1: Bucket Curl - this connector should be routed to the bucket cylinders, the end closest to the rod such that pressure on this line makes the cylinder retract and the bucket curl.
2: Bucket Dump - this connector should be routed to the bucket cylinders, the end furthest from the rod such that pressure in this line makes the cylinder extend, dumping the bucket.
3: Down - this connector should be routed to the boom cylinders, connected to the end nearest the rod such that pressure on this line retracts the cylinders, lowering the loader.
4. Up - this this connector should be routed to the boom cylinders, connected to the end furthest from the rod such that pressure on this line extends the cylinders, raising the loader.
The flow restriction orifice should be installed in-line with the Boom Up connector so as to slow the lowering when heavily loaded.
You will have to trace the lines on the actual loader. I don't have the loaader manual handy in front of me, and I would trust the actual physical machine more than the doc since I recall there was some confusion or difference in the diagram vs. the actual loader plumbing.
