Should I buy a mower deck now?

I have a new JD2320 and will be using it for business with 3pt hitch implements but sometime in the future I will (hopefully) have a lawn that will require a big deck. Maybe not for 5-7 years.

Is it advisable to buy the deck soon before they are no longer made to fit? If in fact that would ever happen or are the mounts and such usually left more or less unchanged over the years.

I don't want to get screwed or have to buy something used and abused.

I'm not a mid-mount mower fan...just won't work with my lawn.

That said, you're looking at an item that will set you back at least $2K and may set idle for several years. You may not even own a Deere 2320 in 5-7 years.
But you do have a good point about new mowers not being available (the mower probably will be (in some form), but the mounting bracketry might not).

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money (unless you're rolling in money).

Five to seven years is a long time... I'd pass on MMM and plan on using a rear finish mower instead.

If I knew that I really wanted a MMM, I would buy it now. I bought a JD 185 lawn tractor in 1989 and decided to hold off on buying a snow blower for financial reasons, even though I knew I wanted it. In 5 years, I was in a better position to buy, but couldn't find one and have been looking ever since. I still have that machine and have kicked myself for 20 years for not buying the blower when new.

On the other hand, I have both a RFM and a MMM for my 2520 and have used the RFM more and think it gives a better cut.

Mid mount works better for my property, so I purchased it with the tractor.

Roy's advice makes sense. If you are talking 5-7 years before you are gonna use it, I would pass for now. If it were only going to be a year or maybe 2 I would consider buying it. Alot of things change in 5 years, not the least of which are life plans. Your situation may be very different then. Heck, I'm on my second 5 year plan and it's only been 3 years!

I personally would skip the MMM. I had to take mine off each time I wanted to go into the woods, hook up the Back Hoe, ect. Just a pain in the *****. I would go for a 3 point mower.
