This is getting to be a pain.
Can't get through to customer service, online shows plenty in stock, so I order for pickup at the store.
Get phone message in a while "Some items you ordered were not in stock..."
Go online and see "Your cancellation was successful"

WTH?? I still want the item I DIDN"T CANCEL!!

Is this some new employee cover their butt action?

Do they get dinged if it shows in stock and they can't find it so they chalk it up to the customer?

Saves me a trip, go to Amazon rather than shop local.

Spent a good hour on the phone with Amazon yesterday; seems someone hacked our account and had charged several hundred dollars to it. Fortunately Amazon spotted them as suspicious and we weren't charged. The hackers sent us probably 10 or 12 robo calls... which we didn't answer... in a short time period. We got it all straightened out though; cancelled our card, etc.

I recently received a call from “Amazon” wanting to refund money to my account for the purchase of an IPhone. Funny thing, they wanted me to open my bank account while they looked in, to confirm their deposit. :eek:

New customer service at its best. They did not do anything wrong, you changed your mind. 🤣 Probably makes it look good for their customer satisfaction stats.

At my old job, corporate installed a help desk ticketing system. We started looking at the stats and found that the guy that was in charge of the installation/operation would close EVERY ticket as successful, whether it was or not. I called him out on it, and he said if it wasn't successful, the customer would call back and open another ticket. It artificially inflated the number of tickets, and the number of successes, to make him look good. I brought it up in a group meeting, and his boss embraced the idea, because it made him look good, too. :oops:

The auto cancel has happened to me on a few orders.
Backordered stock with no date was the cause.
Most let me know about the cancel, a few didn't !

I had it happen more than once at a local big box store. Annoying as all get out to be strung along for awhile and then gaslighted. I'm not sure if it was policy, or a rogue employee, as @MossRoad shared...

I understand that supply chains are in tatters, but if I am hanging in their with you for the duration canceling without telling me is salt in wounds...

For orders over $35 Walmart ships for free. I use this often because many items are not in stock in the stores.

I've had similar happen a couple of times. I found a good deal on Amazon for a Buck knife so placed an order. They showed it ready to ship, it shipped, I got an estimated delivery date... when that date arrived I got an email saying that it was delayed until the next day. Then it got pushed back again. About a week after the projected delivery date I got an email stating they couldn't find it and that I was getting a refund. I suspect that somebody suddenly realized they had advertised the wrong price and were losing money, so the order never left the warehouse.

I ordered a digging spade to be delivered to a local hardware store. They said it was delivered but when I went to pick it up they couldn't find it anywhere; despite their records showing it had been received. A good spade is hard to come by without spending close to 3 figures, so I suspect that somebody saw it and grabbed it for themself. I got a refund, but would have preferred the tool.
