Shoe Laces Size

My experience is that the laces outlast cheap shoes. My last pair of WM sneakers started coming apart in 3-4 months.

I wore $10 to $12 Walmart sneakers for several years, but as you said, they didn't last long. I think maybe these high dollar sneakers may be cheaper in the long run.

To keep this a "tractor related topic," maybe we should discuss proper lacing patterns for tractor operation? And different patterns for gear tractors vs. HST?

Don't know about proper patterns for Tractors but in Naval Aviation OCS we learned there definitely is a proper lacing pattern for our "highly polished low quarter blacks".

- - Lace goes in from the top on both sides and then the laces follow an outside-over-inside pattern going up. This means that the left and right shoes are laced differently.

Failure to lace properly incurs the wrath of the Marine Drill Instructors. :(

Yes, sir, that's correct. I was taught to lace my Red Wing logger boots by a friend who served in the Marine Corps. and now all of my shoes are laced exactly as you described: in from the top, outside over inside, each shoe's pattern different; a mirror image of the other.

I'm waiting for a Navy guy to comment on how long it takes one Marine to tie his shoes. :D

I use to know all the Marine Corps jokes. My attitude changed over night after the Bombing in Beruit.

I asked a retired Navy man about this today. He said he still ties his shoes the way he learned in boot camp. And he said he learned to fold his clothes at boot camp and folds them the same way now.

I got tired of having boot laces either too long or too short and at the price these days ($6.00 to $7.50 is crazy) I buy the longest ones for near the same price. I install them in my short boots and cut them to the exact length I need, and repair the cut end with some electrical shrink tubing.:laughing::laughing:

Yep me too. And all shirts hanging in the closet face to starboard and pants face forward. There's probably a lot more things too that I just don't think about - but do because it was the "Navy Way".
