Is www.clearspan.com the current front runner for shelters? I was looking at Cover-It a while ago, but I see they have been bought out and the place that bought them doesn't seem to be on the ball. Clearspan has a 10'Wx8'Hx18'L for $579 plus shipping (about $100). It's green with a zipper roll up door on one end. Does anyone know of a better deal? I don't want silver/gray.

When I looked at Clearspan shelters a few years ago I was unimpressed. They just seemed to be on the flimsy side compared to Cover-It. They were cheaper too so I guess you get what you pay for. I ended up with a Cover-It and am quite pleased.

It looks like they sold out to a group of investors. The new address it either the same of near where they were before (I can't find the old address but I knew it was in CT).

Have you emailed or called for a quote?

I have had nothing but trouble with ShelterLogic, (formerly Cover-It.)

Ordered 3 12x20x8 green "run-in" sheds. Very delayed shipment. Got wrong size tarps. Didn't get any anchors. I pieced together one. Calls and emails go unanswered. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif So, I had to place the order in dispute with the cc.

My recommendation is to stay away from them. Wish I had known they were sold/bought. The story they told me was that they were moving.

Here is another place: Barns 2 go I think ShelterLogic is the main supplier of these things, all the pics look the same.

You could look at Farmtek too...

Have a good one,
Neil. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for the info. I checked a couple of suppliers for Cover-It brand and they all say at least 6 weeks delivery. I need something sooner than that. Clearspan is higher priced, but they say theirs are available in 2 days. They have a money back guarantee if returned within 30 days, but I'd have to pay the shipping. Barns2go says their return policy is "no returns accepted" which makes me nervous.

I checked with some Cover-It dealers on the web and they all say at least 8 weeks for delivery. I checked with www.shelterking.com and they're cheaper and they say 2 weeks delivery, so I called them and asked them for some color samples, since I don't trust what they look like on the computer. I called once about 3 weeks ago and never got any, so I called again last week and still haven't got any. I decided that I was getting a sample of what their service would be like, so I'm not going to buy anything from them. I don't know where people are getting better prices on the Clearspan shelters - it's likely that they are the gray color though, which I don't want.

Have you looked at Northern Tool? They have an extensive selection of shelters - maybe what you are looking for?

Thanks, but I checked Northern and they have a good price, but it's the gray color, which I don't want. It looks like blue in the picture, but the description says gray.

Followup:

After complaining for a month, I finally got the right cover and anchors. Not sure if the credit card inquiry had anything to do with it or not.

Still wouldn't recommend going with ShelterLogic or NAOP or EquineDirect.

Have a good one,
Neil.

I ended going with www.shelterking.com after all. I finally got the color samples I asked for and it wasn't their fault, it was the post office's fault, it got lost in the mail. I just ordered a 12'W x 20'L x 8'H with anchors and double zipper doors at both ends for a total of $553 ($448 + $105 shipping). They said it should ship in 5 days. I'll keep you all posted how it turns out.

Mosey,
I bet they are made by ShelterLogic....
You might have got a better deal $$ wise, but not support wise.

I think you made a good choice, I'm more-or-less satisfied with the quality.

Have a good one,
Neil.

Neil,

No, they are not associated with Shelter Logic. I called and asked them and they said they are their own company. Time will tell how the support works out. Hopefully it will ship this week. Snow is coming!

Mosey,
I didn't write my last message very clearly.

I think you will have better support than you would have had with ShelterLogic. (Though, I don't know anything about the company you purchased from, I can't imagine anybody being worse than ShelterLogic.)

Have a good one,
Neil.

I got my ShelterKing 12'Wx20'Lx8'H shelter last week and looked it over. It looks like good quality. I hope to get it put up next week, so I'll post again later.

The ShelterKing is OK, but not great quality. It went up fine and seems sturdy. But, one of the duckbill anchors broke after I pounded it in the ground then pulled back up on it by hand to tighten it! About half of the turnbuckles used to tighten the drawstrings were stripped out. I called them about a month ago asking for replacements and never got anything. I went Menards and bought some good quality turnbuckles and some 30" screw-in anchors. I don't recommend ShelterKing to anyone!

Neil,
I have looking for something like this for my horses but I'm reluctant to buy one because of the wind factor.
I see you live fairly close to me, ( I'm in the Frostburg Md. area ) So maybe you could offer some insight.
I live on top of a mountain and the wind is brutal, especially in the winter. How do these shelters stand up to the wind in an open field in january?

scesnick,
I drive 68 alot - you're right, there is a lot of wind through there!
We have 2 of these type of shelters up. No ends, though. They seem to do fine in the wind. I think it has to do with the flaps at the bottom, keeps them from "balooning" I guess.

We shut the fields down for the winter, but the horses were in there during some high wind in the summer.

Not much help.....
Neil.

I noticed on all the websites for these shelters that they never seem to say anything about windload. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We had gusts last night upwards of 50mph+. found one of my 3 trash cans at the end of the field today. I still have 2 cans that are MIA.
I'm afraid one of these shelters would also be MIA after one of these winter wind gusts. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif My Horses would not be pleased.

Well, during the summer we had a big storm. Don't remember the speed though...

We also had a generic shelter from Sam's club. It was white and the tubes just "fit" together. I had it lashed down at each post, but it blew down, across the field in the storm.

The other two shelters weren't affected. Their frames all bolt together and then I have the duckbill anchors and they really seem to work well. I only used 4. It called for 6 and I guess you could use 8 if you wanted to be sure.

I have gone out and knocked the snow off, even though they are half round, the snow did accumulate. (But we haven't had much snow anyway...)

But, again, I wouldn't touch shelterlogic/coverit/whatever name again.

Neil.
