Any opinions on Shell Rotella T5 10w-30 synthetic? Am considering it for my XG3037. Thanks.

While I've used it, my preference now is Amsoil 5-40 synthetic. Easy starts. Less smoke.

I have never considered it for any of my equipment. Question - If I am changing every 100 hours now, would I change every 2 hundred hours with synthetic? My main grinder uses just a tad over 3 gallons per change.

T5 10w30 is a synthetic blend. Love the stuff! Use it in the G3038, F350, generator and the UTV year round. Heck I even run it in the commuter cars every couple years during the summer just to keep things clean.

Best part it's $16.XX a gallon at WM.

I've used quite a bit of T5, it is a good oil. I did, however, switch to T6. Tractors run quieter

I use T6 in both my diesels (truck and tractor). It's "the best" as far as I'm concerned.

In fact, I came up a bit short on a pre-trip truck oil change last night. Had to run all the way across town this morning to get more. Something like $20.

Think 10w30 stuff is what pure old 30w used to be. Not good for cold starting. Your top end valve train would end up smoking by the time the oil gets to it.

I use 5w30 Castrol for VW TDIs that I buy at the local VW place. Would love to get 0w30, but it just plain isn't available: maybe in Canada. The 5w30 is what I use in my JD Yanmar diesel and Isuzu diesel.

Does anybody know what “synthetic blend” really means? 1% synthetic, 51% synthetic or ???

I think T5 is about $1 per quart cheaper than T6. I use the T6 in everything since it is rated for gasoline and diesel engines. I find the convenience of not having to stock multiple oils worth the extra cost. Also T6 goes on sale at least once a year with a rebate coupon for about $15 per gallon. I like the fact that the T6 is a 5W-40 weight. I do have one car that specs a 5W20 oil but I refuse to put a 20W oil in any engine that runs in the south in the summer (or winter for that matter). These companies will do anything to get an additional mile per gallon EPA rating, including possible damage to their engines in the long term. As long as they last past the warranty period (24K in some brands) that is all they need for it to do.
I don't care if my car gets 31 MPG (which is does with 5W-40 T 6 oil) or 32 with the 0W-20, 1 MPG wont break the bank for gasoline purchases.
Call me OLD and Out of touch if you want but I have always ran 10W40 (prior to using the full synthetic oil)oil all my life and don't plan to change now. I do go with the lower cold start value like 5W or )0W if I were in Canada, but the hot oil rating, I want to be at least 40W.

I will be using Chevron Dello 15/40 in my tractor on first oil change in south Mississippi with temp at the lowest in the 20ç—´ and around the 100ç—´ as the highest. I have used it for years in all my Diesel eq, Shell Rotella 15/40 is also good in my openion i would use either.
I dont put enough hrs on the engine to use synthetic i dont think.

No. I thought it was stupid. T4 is about $12 a gallon. The T6 is $19 a gallon. The T5 was like $17. Why not pay a little more for the T6. I put T6 in my truck in the last change. It might idle a little quieter, but I didn’t notice much difference on a cold start.

The problem with T6 is it only comes in 5W-30 so if your owners manual only lists 10W-30 or 15W-40 then I don't think you should really go to 5W-30. Based on temperature ranges my Mahindra wants 10W-30 so I use T5 because I can't get 10W-30 in T6.

By the way, Shell has rebate offers on their T5 and T6 oils through the end of the year. I got $5 per gallon rebate on the T5 (up to 4 gallons).

T6 is on sale right now at Menards for $19.95. They also have their 11% rebate going on, so that brings it down to $17.76. Then take advantage of the Shell rebate on top of that and your price is $12.76 per gallon. That's hard to beat!
