Shelf life of hy-gard

Greetings,

I need to top off my hydro and I have a half quart of hy-gard that I opened in 9-2012.

is there any shelf life limit to this oil? I know it isn't much, but it will get me started (I think I will need more).

this will probably happen again, so I am also asking for future reference.

Agreed. But I always thoroughly shake my buckets that have been sitting for a while just to make sure none of the additives stick to the bottom. Maybe not an issue with trans fluid but I think it matters with engine oil.

There's a tip that I've never heard before......At motor oil changes, using 6 quarts, I give each quart about five minutes on a timer so that all drains completely, so maybe that is not an issue for me. A little shake wouldn't hurt however.

Let it drain for five minutes, look inside and there's still stuff on the bottom of the container. Shake it for 15 seconds, let it drain for 30 seconds and the bottom is clean. For a six quart oil change that's over 20 minutes of time saved to potentially be devoted to seat time on the tractor.
