that was the biggest mistake i made and its a biggie. there are blocks at each corner and the middle for a total of 6. I bought this book and took my design for the blocking straight from it, rrrrrrr i not happy. floor bounces and there has allready been some sag from the middle to the corners. I have several 16 foot bridge tembers that i plan on suporting it with if it gets any worse.
the plans also said nothig about cripples between the floor joist and those need to be there also uggg live and learn. I have built many decks and never had a problem, should have went with what i knew not what a book said.

each block has 12" of compacted pea size gravel under it along with a 12x12x1.5 concrete paver then the blocks are on top of that. The reason i used this type of foundation is so that i could avoid a permit due to im very close to neighbors fence and various other reasons. with the structure not attached to the gound we can build whatever whereever. If i had the $ and was going to do it all over again i would set post in concrete 24" deep and build from that.
how big are you going to build yours?
Planning on 12 x 16, 9' sidewalls, and either an 8/12 or 12/12 gable roof with a gable dormer for light (or maybe just a skylight) Thinking of 8' overhead door on one end, 1 walkout door, and a 36" x 36" window that I had left over. Pics look great- really like the french doors. Does it have lots of overhead room?

The french doors and windows came from habitat for humanity, i paid 60 for both doors and 30 for 3 windows, heck of a deal i thought. There is 6 feet from the deck of the loft to the ridge beam so ya there is a ton of space up there which is why such a steep high roof. The only draw back was getting up there and doing the work. I am on a ladder all day and that roof was pretty stressful at times. Careful how much wall space you take up with doors and windows, it really cuts into the available space. I built this as a small workshop/storage place and have gone to great lenghts to tray and seal it up tight to keep the bugs out. I even put double screens over the eve vents to prevent anything from crawling up in there.
my original estimate was 1500, in materials i have about 1800 but i bought a couple new air nailers to speed up the process.
i would do at least 4 foot centers on the floor framing if i did it all over again, hook all the floor joist together with bracing in between and use real plywood for the floor. OSB is very rough and cant count the times i pulled a splinter from under my finger nail while picking something up.
