I've got a Kubota B2789 snow blower. 3point, gear drive to the auger.
The right angle drive to the auger has a shear plate fitting with a 1/4 inch shear bolt.
Bought used, the previous owner was running this blower with about 1/4 inch gap between the shear plates.

THAT"S not right! Bent the shear bolt every which way.
I replaced the bolt today (grade 5, as spec'ed) and was considering the torque to apply.

The owner's manual on the blower is hush on the topic other than the "general torque table" which suggests 8 pound feet.

Of course, it's a locking nut application, and a location IMPOSSIBLE to get to with a torque wrench.
I've got a pretty good feel for "proper bolt tensioning", but....
Just wondering what should be "right" for these "shear flange couplings"? My gut tells me "just snug", and let the 1/4 diameter grade 5, 70ksi be right, with little clamp up.

Opinions?

(we all have 'em ;-)

Agree use your judgement since to tight may cost you more that a 1/4” shear bolt.
