But all the weight on that hitch is behind the rear axle. Shouldn't it be at or forward of the axle?

Thanks for the diagram. I didn't know recreational trailer 5th wheels had that extension forward. A semitrailer bears its weight straight down, no?

5th wheel RV have to have the extension to allow the trailer to turn and not hit the cab during normal driving, something that was less of an issue when people only towed with an 8 foot box truck.
