Floriduh Man .....

"On Monday, consummateFlorida Man Douglas Allen Hatley located a downed 15.7-foot metal utility pole on the side of the road and somehow strapped it to the roof of his 1997 Toyota Camry, hoping to make a quick buck at the recycling center, according to Fox 13 in Tampa.

Hatley was reportedly pulled over by a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper while driving to the recycling facility after someone witnessed him loading the pole onto his vehicle, and decided to report him to the local authorities. The 71-year-old man was charged with grand theft in part because he did not have proper paperwork showing that he owned the light pole, which witnesses claim he found along Interstate 4."

""Reputable scrapyards wouldn't have touched that item with a 10-foot pole," a local scrapyard employee told the news station. "

No One Straps a Stolen Utility Pole to a Toyota Camry and Gets Away With It

But, but, but .... it was a 15' pole, so .....

I always wondered who owned the various stuff on the side of the road. I mean the pole is obvious, but if something looses something, who does it belong to?

Anyway, that guy is better than the guy years ago removing guard rails and scrapping them. Probably, the pole guy is removing that pole cheaper than a Government crew would cost. Must be aluminum for the Grand theft charge.

I'd like to know how he got it up there.

And then kept it from rolling off with that shoestring.

I think it's aluminum, and if you really want something, it's amazing what a 71 year old can still accomplish!

My Dad is someone that could transport that with a little string and everything would be just fine.

The guy had someone with him. This guy is 71 and had been arrested something like 40 times.

I don't know what I would use it for, but I would not sell it to a recycling center. 15' aluminum post would have more value to me as a post than what I would get for it as scrap.

Saw this somewhere a while back. I'm sure the installation was designed by a structural engineer, verified with a a finite element analysis, and installed by a certified technician.

Wow, the time and money that went into such a wrong answer could have probably gotten to the right answer.
